Scotland Walking Weekend

With some reasonable weather predicted for central Scotland at the weekend, I took a quick trip up in the car to bag a couple of hills on my “to-do” list. On the Saturday I walked up Schiehallion…

… and on the Sunday I tackled Stob Dearg, one of the Munros on Buachaille Etive Mor.

Buachaille Etive Mor was by far the more challenging and enjoyable of the two hills, not least because it came the closer to killing me! I’ve never had such an innocuous slip with such serious ramifications.

My foot slipped on a wet rock, whilst walking on a narrow exposed path at the top of Coire na Tulaich. With nothing to grab onto I fell about 15 feet, over grass and rocks and only just managing to stop myself before I got to a 30 foot drop off. I shudder to think what would have been the result of falling that extra distance. The skittering, slithering drop of 15 feet was bad enough.

I was almost at the top at that point though, so I carried on. I have big bruises on both shins and one forearm and the leg bruises both swelled up nicely during the day. I ended up cutting the walk short by a mile or so.
