Every year my annual holiday is spent on the hills, walking one of the UK’s long distance paths. Not for me the luxury hotels of the Algarve or skiing in Switzerland, no, I much prefer to battle my way across desolate moorland, often into a hurricane force head wind, or crossing streams swollen with the previous 3 weeks rain.
I tend to walk in late April, early May which despite the occasional hurricane, tends to offer some of the most consistently dry weather we have in this country. I have recorded the trials, tribulations and joy of most of these walks and collated the list below – as much for my posterity as anything else, but hopefully you’ll find something useful hidden amongst the moaning!
