Another hot day in prospect, so I started as early as I could and I was walking by 06:30. This is a walk that needs to be done mid-week, when you're allowed to drive up the road beyond Fairholmes, giving much better access to Howden Moor and beyond. It's also a walk you need to do after a long dry spell or after a hard frosty spell - the ground is very wet for most of the route and this would be a slog if the moors were wet. A good day for wildlife, spotted three lizards on the higher path, grey wagtails in the river and a mountain hare on Swains Head. A great day in the sun!
