Walk Report: Yarlside

I decided to return to a route I did with Rambling Pete back in March, when the fells were under a couple of feet of snow – we’d not managed to ascend Yarlside because of the snow and ice, so I wanted to come back and bag a couple of Yorkshire Top 30s and visit the top.

Parking in Newbiggin-on-Lune again

Yarlside grows ever bigger as I get futher down the valley

The Lakeland fells from the summit of Yarlside – I could pick out Great Gable and the Scafells from the summit here

Looking back to Yarlside – its very steep and there’s no path to speak of – we would never have made it in March with all the snow on the flanks

Weasdale

The last section is almost pathless and very boggy

Problem is, no-one uses it, so its very overgrown – thank goodness for the marker posts

This is the footpath – looking back from the outside – the owner of the house has removed the footpath sign from his fence post to deter walkers. I remember when Pete and I were here last time thinking “the path can’t be through this garden” and turning round and walking back through the village. The other side of the fence post has a yellow marker on it, but not this side – cheeky sod!
