A break in the miserable weather allowed for two excellent days in the Dales with a superb winter wildcamp in between. A bad start to the day saw me almost stick the car in a drystone wall as it slid out of control, backwards, down a hill it had not been able to climb in the snow beside Malham Cove. The addition of snow socks eventually made the trip to Malham Tarn possible and Chris and I had an excellent afternoon walk along a snow-covered Pennine Way, beneath beautiful blue skies, bright sunshine and almost no wind. In complete contrast to our last walk up to Kinder Scout. We found a reasonable spot to pitch beside a wall on the summit of Fountains Fell with great views across to Pen-y-Ghent. A fairly cold night followed, I really need a better winter bag!
