Notes: The mist cleared as we packed away damp tents and set off around the edge of Kinder on the Pennine Way and then the sun came out and although it was chilly with a stiff wind, it wasn't raining as we had feared. We spent an easy morning climbing up to Bleaklow, passing only a few people and then descended to Torside through a brief rain shower with some hail stoned thrown in for good measure (the only rain of the day). We struggled up the climb to Laddow Rocks, feeling the miles of the day in our legs and headed for the County Top of Black Chew Head, only a short diversion from the track. We found a lovely camp site, at the head of Crowden Great Brook, recommended to us by Chris Pilgrim and Dean Read, following their Pennine Way journey earlier this year. It quickly got quite cold though so we shovelled hot food in and dived into down jackets and sleeping bags for the night.
